What makes London the top destination for international conferences?
18 May
When it comes to international conferences, London leads the way. This may come as a surprise to some as it isn’t as central as Paris or Berlin and the weather is unpredictable to say the least. Nevertheless, businessman and movers and shakers flock here in their thousands to hold conferences about everything you can imagine, so what is it about London that makes it so appealing.
A big attraction for businessmen from the likes of the US and Japan is simply the fact that it is England. They will happily travel thousands of miles to spend a few days in a city that has the history and attractions that their own cities just don’t have. The Americans and Japanese are two of London’s most prevalent tourists, so it makes sense that their businesspeople have the same opinion and long to visit the capital.
Another plus is the choice of venues and locations available. There are venues that house 50 people to 500 people, and as most other cities just have a selection of huge auditoriums where a small collection of delegates may feel uncomfortable, the fact that more intimate locations are available have a great appeal for overseas visitors. Add to this the ‘Englishness’ of it all, not to mention the hospitality, it all adds up to a heady mix. Many of these spaces within hotels also function as wedding reception venues in London, particularly at weekends, so business people should be surprised to be sharing venues with a groom and bride during conferences.
International businessmen are used to staying in hotels around the world, but few cities have the choice of hotels and places to relax and unwind that London does. From huge corporate brands to boutique hotels, business people can relax, unwind, and take advantage of the great hospitality on offer to turn another mundane business trip into something that little bit special.
London is one of the most cultural and exciting cities in the world and under the suits and the corporate banter, businessmen are just people, and it makes sense that they too want to take advantage of what our capital has to offer.
