The great transport links around Europe have opened up many new destinations for weekend travellers, one being the city of Innsbruck in the Austrian Tyrol. Long associated with the skiing scene, Innsbruck has a lot more to offer the discerning tourist than just ski slopes. The cultural capital of the Tyrol is home to world class collections of art and many elegant boutiques.

A must see on any short break to Innsbruck is the most important symbol in the city, the Golden Roof. Situated in the old town, Archduke Friedrich IV started constructing the roof in the 15th century for the emperor Maximilian I who used to sit beneath it and watch the world go by. Another must see is the Hofburg imperial palace with its chandelier lit grandeur it is both imposing and impressive.
